National Night Out- “It’s Career Time”
Tuesday, August 2nd, 2022 4:00-7:00pm
The Northside Association for Community Development (NACD) and The Kalamazoo Promise are hosting National Night Out – It’s Career Time and Community BBQ on Tuesday, August 2nd from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at NACD’s Healthy Living Campus (308 West North Street).
National Night Out is a national community building campaign that promotes police – community partnerships. NACD hosts an event every year to support National Night Out. A lot of community members come out to enjoy a summer evening, learn about opportunities in Kalamazoo, win prizes, and have fun. We will have games for kids, a DJ, and a BBQ. We plan to invite partners that offer the following resources and services: housing, childcare, legal advice, literacy services and job placement services.
This year we are adding “It’s Career Time” to National Night Out to inform residents about short-term job training programs that lead to postsecondary certificates and good jobs that are now offered at NACD. This is an opportunity for individuals to learn how to jump-start their careers in in-demand jobs. Employer partners that have helped inform the trainings, and that are guaranteeing interviews (and potentially jobs) upon successful completion, will be invited to talk with attendees about the training and their industries.
A sampling of the training programs invited include:
Computer Numeric Control – Kalamazoo Valley Community College, The Groves Campus (with employer partners)
Certified Nursing Assistant – Michigan Career and Technical Institute (with employer partners)
Google IT Support Professional Certificate – Kalamazoo Valley Community College The Groves Campus (with Kalamazoo Technology Training Partnership Employer Partners)
Vision for Prosperity Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training – Workforce Development Institute (with employer partners)
