Black History Month Read-Along

The Kalamazoo Promise would like to invite KPS families to a Virtual Read-Along, February 21st @ 7:00pm. Parents will need to register here, to receive the Zoom link invitation. The first 50 families to register will have a book mailed to them. After the first 50, books will be available for pick up at the Kalamazoo Promise building downtown (180 E Water St Suite 2005 Kalamazoo, MI 49007). If unavailable, parents may purchase a copy of the book on Amazon (Links at the bottom of this page). Book or not, we still welcome you to join us!

The Kalamazoo Promise would like to celebrate, honor, and recognize the achievements of and contributions to our society made by African Americans. This Virtual Read-Along will shine a light on people who have paved the way to where we are now. This will also be a space for Promise Students to feel welcome and valued.

The Virtual Read-Along will feature books from two black authors. Arianna’s First 5k by Keshia Dickason is a story about an elementary age girl who wanted to run in a 5k race. Arianna is helped by her friends, coach, and family to make her dream come true. She does this by learning a positive healthy lifestyle, building self-esteem, and having fun.

The College Kids: Taking You on a Journey About College by Dr. Joe Johnson will visit several colleges in the state of Michigan. A brother and sister get the opportunity to learn about college living, how to apply for college, ways to pay for college, steps to make it to college, and other info.
