Current Promise Scholars

On Your Path

College is one of the most exciting times for a Promise scholar: You spend your days pursuing your dreams without worrying over rising tuition costs, student loans, or anything besides the path that leads to your future.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

To maintain good standing :

  • You need to maintain a 2.0 grade point average,

  • Be a full-time student,

  • Work toward at least 12 credits per semester, and

  • Make regular progress toward a degree or certification as defined by Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) of their school.

Each semester, funds will be paid directly from the Promise to the student’s school, following the student’s completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Summer Classes and Transferring Schools

You can use your Promise to take classes during the summer!

We consider summer to be classes that start in the months of April through mid-August. The Promise will only pay for courses at one school over the course of the entire summer.  Even if you take classes over multiple summer sessions, these must all be taken at the same school.

To take summer classes at the school you normally attend:

  1. The Promise doesn’t require any additional paperwork

  2. There is no full-time requirement for the summer

  3. Complete any additional paperwork for your institution

    1. KVCC: KVCC Summer Intent Form

    2. WMU

      1. Summer I Undergraduate Financial Aid Application

      2. The Summer II form will be available near the beginning of the semester on WMU’s Financial Aid website. Look for: Summer II Undergraduate Financial Aid Application

    3. For any other school, please contact their financial aid department directly to inquire about their specific requirements

To take summer classes at a different school than you normally attend:

  1. Submit a Scholarship Acceptance Form for the new Promise eligible school, if you don’t already have one, by logging into your student account at portal.kalamazoopromise.com/login

  2. There is no full-time requirement for the summer

  3. Complete any additional paperwork for your institution

Transfer Scholarship Acceptance

A transfer request scholarship acceptance form (SAF) is required in order to move your Promise Scholarship from your current school of choice. Your scholarship can be moved from one Promise eligible school to another as long as you are eligible and your scholarship is not in a suspension status.

You can see your Promise status by logging into your student account.
